Head Coach : David Hammond

David, also known as Dave, started rowing in his freshman year of high school at Everett Rowing Association in Washington, continuing as an athlete through college at Orange Coast College and Washington State University. His coaching background is also at Everett, where he coached novice and varsity women, and served as Head Coach of the program during the summers. Dave was deeply influenced by his novice coach, Bill Clifford, who taught him hard work and dedication, permanently changing his life and leading to taking up coaching as a profession. Beyond his career as an athlete and coach, Dave has also worked to refurbish used boats at Pocock Racing Shells.

He's been Head Coach for UC Davis Women's Rowing since Fall 2016.

"Coaching is my chosen profession due to its profound effect on my life. I hope to be a positive effect on my athletes’ lives in the way my novice coach was to me. I deeply believe in the continuation of the great culture the athletes and their predecessors have created at UCD. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to coach the UC Davis women this year, and I am very excited to get the season started!"

Novice Coach : Becca Weissman

Becca discovered rowing in 2009 when she attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Originally, it was a means of losing weight but she soon learned that rowing helped her improve and develop in more than ways than just physical. She decided to pursue a career in athletics and graduated in 2013 as a four year rower with a degree in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science. Over the past eight years she has coached juniors, masters, and collegiate rowing. She was most recently the Head Varsity Coach for Sonoma State Women’s Rowing.

This is Becca’s first year as the Novice Coach for UC Davis Women’s Rowing.

“My favorite thing about coaching is seeing the steep learning curve of novice rowing and watching the passion for the ultimate team sport blossom.”
