FAQs

Do I need previous experience to join?

1

Not at all! Our club typically attracts both athletes with and without experience, and we strive to provide support regardless of your skill level.

How do I get to practice without a car?

2

We have two main practice locations: Toomey Field (on campus) and the Kurt Rocca Boathouse (West Sacramento). The team organizes carpools to get to the boathouse for practices on the water and Toomey Field is right on campus and easily accessible walking or by bike for land practices.

Does it cost money to join?

3

We are a largely self-funded club, and rely on athlete dues and fundraising. Athlete dues are paid quarterly, and they change depending on enrollment and allocations from sports clubs. Our club does everything we can to minimize athlete dues and to create an environment that is accessible to all.

What if I can’t afford the dues payments?

4

No athlete is barred from participating on the basis of financial limitations. As such, we offer a Rent-A-Rower program in which community members hire rowers to work for $25 an hour. Participating in Rent-A-Rowers is optional, and 100% of rowers’ profits contribute directly to their dues. If financial barriers are still a concern, we encourage athletes to reach out to the treasurer at treasurer@ucdrowing.com
